By Meghan Wubs, 2006-12-12

After 50 years in the music business, Canada's "First Lady of Folk" Penny Lang took home two awards Sunday night at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Lang won the award for best solo artist as well as best album for her latest release, Stone & Sand & Sea & Sky. This is the first time the Montreal singer-songwriter has received any type of award for her music.

The second annual Folk Awards, held at Edmonton's Myer Horowitz Theatre, also honoured folk family, The McDades with two awards for best instrumental group and best world group.

Other winners include the all female singing group Madrigaia for best group, Jim Byrnes for best contemporary singer and James Keelaghan for best traditional singer. Bruce Cockburn, nominated in four categories, won in the best solo instrumentalist category.
