Nazareth in Concert at the "Festival of
Lights" Opening Act "Mid Life Crisis"
Show Review by
John A.
Mayer Del Crary Park was packed and ready for a good time. The sound system was cranked up for this one. Balding middle aged family guys along with twenty and thirty-somethings were ready to rock. Local opening act "Mid Life Crisis" put on a credible although unspectacular show but then they didn't pretend to be Nazareth. They did a great job and the sound was even and clear but loud. Of course, the feature act had to be louder than the opener and that set the tone for the rest of the night. I don't mind thunder and lightning but if you crank it up make sure you have clarity and a good sound man. Nazareth appeared only after a long drawn out and boring intro at ten decibels. Throughout the concert it became clear that the guitarist was making this his show and it was hard to hear anything else. I couldn't make out most of the lyrics except for the chorus. The special effects muddied the sound even more and I wasn't impressed with the harmonies. Nazareth was known for it's unique raw vocals but they weren't clear or less than perfect much of the time. This band brings back a lot of memories for me and I like them a lot but maybe the lads from Scotland should consider retiring or hiring a new sound man. Overall, I give their performance a C minus.
